Welcome to the San Diego Budokai!
Welcome to the San Diego Budokai and the Traditional Martial Arts of Japan. Empty your mind of preconceived ideas (The Martial Arts are not what you think they are), pay attention, do as you are told, train hard, and you will achieve things most people believe to be magic. There is no magic, just knowledge ... earned through hard work. How long will it take to get really good? ... ONE MORE YEAR!!!

The Making of a Traditional Martial Artist

A Japanese sword begins as a lump of insignificant metal. Through continued heating, pounding, and shaping, it is turned into a thing of terrible beauty, graceful, refined, sharp, polished and deadly. It is shielded from the eyes of others within its scabbard. Exposed only when its power must be unleashed, it is then returned to its resting place, not flaunted or flashed about to impress, entertain, or intimidate others.

The dojo is to the student as the forge is to the metal, and through the same process the student is shaped into a martial artist. Rather than exhibit their power for all to see, they also choose to keep it hidden until needed.

"Don't seek what your sensei is seeking,
seek what he has sought."
